Irish Hip Hop???

Party People,

Early on in the year we played a gig with Aesop Rock. He was a really cool bloke & put on a killer show. So I thought I’d include here a very bizarre clip from an Aesop Rock MTV special with an irish twist.

I’ve also included a performance of one of my favourite tunes off Aes Rock’s “None Shall Pass” album, called “Coffee”. Enjoy.

Life ain’t easy!

Party people.

So we played the Life festival on Friday in Galway. I have to say it was one of the most bizarre nights of my whole entire life. I will attempt to explain some of it now but trust me the true madness will not be done justice.

It all started off normal enough with a nice drive to Galway. Same deal as always, we all catch up on what everyone’s been up to and then we all play the new music that has been getting each one of us excited to each other.

We then arrive and join a huge queue to get into the festival while it pisses rain. Over an hour later and several misinformed queries we get to the back of the stage. We start loading our gear onto the stage. Then when we get on stage it’s absolutely soaking. We don’t feel comfortable with leaving all the gear in the rain so we put it back in the car until we are on. Then the sound goes onstage due to the rain and all the music stops for half an hour or so. We think we won’t be able to play. Then it stops raining for 30mins & the music starts up again so we think we will be playing again.

We then go to get all the gear out of the car until Twiddler realises he has lost the keys to the car. We then spend the next 20mins in the pissing rain trying to retrace Pauls steps to find the keys in the pitch dark. This was not fun! Twiddler then realises that he left the keys in the car. So after another 20 mins of trying to break into his own car through the driver’s window he smashes it by accident. We then get all the gear out to go onstage and play the gig. The rain continues to pelt down during our set and a makeshift rain jacket is made to protect all of my electronic equipment. Then a stage invasion occurs with dancing ladies and it was just generally all a bit mad.

We then get ready to get a few hours kip in our tents but of course someone has to sleep in the car due to the broken window. In the end three of us “slept” in the car, four if you count MJ getting in at 6.30am because he was freezing his nads off. A very strange night all round.

Life Festival

2 07 2008

Party People. Just to let you know we are playing our only Irish show for the summer this friday at the Life Festival down in Galway. We are heading the Amphitheatre StageThe Amphitheatre Stage which should be amazing. Think we are onstage at 1.30am. Gonna play some new tunes off the new album. Can’t wait!

Also currently re-listening to loads and loads of Curtis Mayfield, the man is simply a genius. Not only writing loads and loads of classics for himself but also lots of other people including this killer classic by the Staple Singers. This has his classic sound all over it and has been sampled by tons of people like Ice Cube & Kanye/John Legend.Enjoy!
